It was at the '92 race at
Memphis that Force
experienced what was
considered the worst accident
of his career (at least until his
accident  at Dallas in 2007)
while racing his former arch
rival, Al Hofmann.  Force's car
blew its engine, fire-balled
across both lanes of Memphis
Motorsports Park, tossed its
body off the chassis, and finally
slid to a fiery stop.
Miraculously, Force was unhurt,
and when interviewed after the
mishap, the outspoken drag
racer uttered one of his most
notorious quotes, "I saw Elvis
at 1000 feet!"

Although that crash and burn took place almost 17 years ago, Force still recalls
it with vivid detail and the topic never fails to ramp up his energy level.

"That was quite a ride," says Force.  "I've had a few of them over the years but
that was the only one that Elvis got to see up close and personal.  I didn't know
what was the worst part of that whole deal, blowing up my hot rod or losing to
Hofmann.  Of course, that year Cruz [Pedregon] beat me for the championship
so little did I know at the time my troubles weren't over."
